It always brightens up my day to hear a little Bueno Vista Social Club before hopping on the train.

If you find yourself in BA needing some uber-healthy eats and plenty of veggies

Pura Vida

http://www.puravidabuenosaires.com/

The couple that started the place learned their juicing talents and whole foods philosophy when living in Miami. Wheat grass shots available here.

BIO & Verde Llama

http://www.happycow.net/south_america/argentina/buenos_aires

The first is vegetarian using organic; the second has vegetarian, vegan, and raw. Both are great spots for balancing out one's meat/ice cream/pasta/empanada intake....

Tallo Verde

Yes, yes, I finally found organic produce...I'm quite excited (saw a flyer at Pura Vida). They deliver the produce to your door (which is not surprising, EVERYTHING can be delivered here). It is the same price, if not cheaper, than buying produce at the grocery store (surprising).

Recoleta Cemetary

The Cemetary

I can't stop coming across commentary on this famous cemetary and everytime I go by it it's filled with tourists that have most likely been hyped up with similar literature. It is quite spectacular and only the extremely wealthy have been buried here in rather ornate mausoleums. It's located in the center of Recoleta, occupying some of the most expensive real estate in town.

It's actually quite pleasant

Note the shelf lined with cheese. This is goat cheese made from goats that were just around the corner. Goat cheese is very popular in this region and used in all sorts of dishes and desserts (one I liked in particular included candied squash and walnuts).

Salta Slideshow

Yay! I've figured out how to put a slideshow on my blog. To see the photos more adequately along wtih my added captions, just click on the picture and the slideshow will open in a larger link. Enjoy!

They could really use some of these in BA. No one cleans up after their dogs. One definitely needs to beware if they dare to wear flip-flops.

Vicarious Travellers

I toured the palace and checked out the gardens.

This is Riley.

This is Riley.
Riley pretty much lies around all day like Mandu. We go for walks and runs in Regent's Park which is just a few blocks away. Very sweet dog. He looks a bit depressed in this picture. He usually looks like this.

Mandu is his name, as in Katmandu, a Himalayan, get it? He pretty much lies around purring. Very sweet. Sometimes coughs up hairballs.

it really is a lively place to visit, but best avoided if you are tired or not up for people getting angry with you for not buying their cheap crap.

hoards of people where you can buy lots of junk and get tattoos, piercings, etc.

I love taking the public transportation. I don't love sitting next to someone that smells like old cheese and ashtrays.

dear readers

I am aware that there are errors of all sorts in this blog, grammatical, spelling, punctuation, etc., and hope that this does not interfere with your reading experience. You see, I've spent almost my entire life in academia, and as an English major, have had to go over papers painstakingly with a fine-tooth comb. While I do believe in correct spelling and grammar, and may possibly go through my entries with a fine-toothed comb at some point to amend my mistakes, for now I'm just letting it all spill out and writing as it comes. This is much more enjoyable for me and reconfirms the fact that I am no longer a graduate student having the life sucked out of me.

The way of life is towards fulfillment, however, wherever it may lead. To restore a human being to the current of life means not only to impart self-confidence but also an abiding faith in the processes of life. A man who has confidence in himself must have confidence in others, confidence in the fitness and rightness of the universe. When a man is thus anchored he ceases to worry about the fitness of things, about the behavior of his fellow men, about right and wrong and justice and injustice. If his roots are in the current of life he will float on the surface like a lotus and he will blossom and give forth fruit. He will draw his nourishment from above and below; he will send his roots down deeper and deeper, fearing neither the depths nor the heights. The life that is in him will manifest itself in growth, and growth is an endless, eternal process. He will not be afraid of withering, because decay and death are part of growth. As a seed he began and as a seed he will return. Beginnings and endings are only partial steps in the eternal process. --Henry Miller
